Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Welcome to Pastel, a marketplace for antiques. Below are answers to common questions from our community of buyers, sellers, and collectors.
🛍️ About Pastel
What is Pastel?
Pastel is an online marketplace for antique and vintage items, connecting collectors, designers, and enthusiasts with trusted sellers across the US. From rare decorations and fine art to collectibles and curiosities, every piece on Pastel is chosen for its character and history.
What makes Pastel different from platforms like Etsy, eBay, or 1stDibs?
Pastel is a focused marketplace built around storytelling, trust, and transparency with 1 click listing feature and story based product posting. Unlike mass platforms, we don’t list reproductions. Sellers on Pastel have dedicated storefronts and drive their own traffic. Buyers enjoy curated discovery without the noise of unrelated products.
🧾 Buying on Pastel
Are the items sold on Pastel genuine antiques or vintage?
Yes. All items must be at least 20 years old to qualify as vintage, or 100+ years old to be considered antique. Sellers are required to provide accurate details, including era, materials, and origin. While we don’t offer authentication yet, our team manually reviews listings to ensure they meet our quality and honesty standards.
How can I verify the history or authenticity of an item?
Many sellers provide provenance or historical context in their listings. If you need more details, you can message the seller directly. For rare or high-value items, we recommend seeking independent authentication from a qualified appraiser.
Can I ask questions before buying?
Absolutely. Each listing includes a “Contact Seller” button, feel free to ask about the condition, origin, dimensions, shipping, or anything else you’d like to know.
Can I make an offer or negotiate the price?
Some sellers are open to reasonable offers, particularly for multiple items or bundled purchases. While we don’t currently offer a built-in “make offer” feature, you can message the seller to discuss pricing.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards, as well as secure digital wallets (e.g Stripe). Payments are processed safely through our encrypted checkout system.
📦 Shipping & Delivery
Who handles shipping?
Shipping is managed directly by each seller through goshippo. All relevant details including cost, method, dispatch time, and delivery window are visible on the product page. For bulky or fragile items, sellers may use white glove or specialized freight services.
Do sellers offer international shipping?
Not yet, but Pastel has plans to expand across the borders soon.
How long does shipping take?
Delivery times vary based on location, courier, and item type. Domestic orders may take 2–7 business days. Sellers will provide tracking information once your item is shipped.
Will my item be insured during shipping?
Most sellers insure valuable or fragile items. If you're purchasing a high-value piece, we recommend confirming with the seller that insurance is included.
What if my item arrives damaged?
Please take photos of the packaging and item, and contact the seller within 48 hours. Many sellers are willing to file insurance claims and offer a refund or replacement where applicable. If the seller is unresponsive, our support team will assist you.
🔄 Returns & Disputes
Can I return an item?
Return policies vary by seller. Some accept returns within a certain period, while others list items as final sale. Please check the return terms listed on the product page before buying.
What if the item I receive isn’t as described?
If your item significantly differs from the description (wrong size, damage not disclosed, wrong item), contact the seller first. If the issue isn’t resolved, Pastel will step in to mediate and protect your purchase.
