History
Woven wire baskets of this design were ubiquitous throughout European and American farmsteads from the late 19th through the mid-20th century. Used primarily as egg collectors and produce harvest trugs, the open wire mesh allowed soil and debris to shake loose while washing or carrying freshly gathered goods. Today, these functional utilitarian objects are highly prized in rustic and country kitchen decor.
