About the Designer:

Professor Oiva Toikka (1931–2019) was one of the most legendary figures in Finnish glass design, renowned globally for his imaginative, bold, and vibrant art. Defying the strict, minimalist functionalism of traditional Scandinavian design, Toikka preferred a rich, organic, and playful aesthetic. His iconic Birds by Toikka collection (Linnut) began in 1972 at the Nuutajärvi glassworks and grew into a worldwide phenomenon, spanning hundreds of species. Because each bird is individually hand-blown by master craftsmen, no two pieces are exactly identical, making this a unique, singular work of glass art.
