History

Cast iron decorative easels became highly popular during the late Victorian era as middle-class households sought ornamental ways to display family photographs, cabinet cards, and small oil paintings. The integration of naturalistic motifs, such as songbirds and foliage, combined with Rococo Revival scrollwork, is highly characteristic of late 19th-century domestic decorative arts.
