History

Floral still life painting enjoyed immense popularity during the Victorian era, driven by the symbolic 'language of flowers' (floriography) and a growing middle-class demand for domestic decorative art. Roses, representing love and beauty, were among the most favored subjects for both professional and accomplished amateur painters of the period, who often worked in a style influenced by traditional Dutch and French still life masters.
