“Ding-Dong, Avon calling.”
Own a piece of 20th century American nostalgia. These pressed glass tumblers represent the ingenuity and independence of the American woman. She could be a hostess to her neighbors and friends and earn her own income while selling Avon products.
Avon took a gamble with their 1876 Cape Cod home dinnerware line. The first of its kind for the company. Launched in 1975 as part of the build-up to the nation’s bicentennial the following year, the name is a two part nod to US history and style. “Cape Cod” for the birthplace of Americana style and “1876” commemorating the 1876 Philadelphia Exposition.
Sandwich glass or pressed glass, as we call it today, was the height of fashion in decorative arts. These deep ruby red translucent glasses are colored all the way through. No coatings to wear off. They feel substantial in hand and hold 12oz of your favorite beverage. The flat bottom design guarantees stability with the style of a beaded rim around the base. A Roman Rosette motif finishes off the design of the tumbler with pronounced glass thickness whereas the uppermost top of the vessel is smooth and rounded for your mouth.
