A Syracuse China "Old Ivory" porcelain demitasse set, decorated in the elegant "Pembroke" pattern. Produced by the Onondaga Pottery Company (O.P. Co.), this set features a warm ivory-toned ground adorned with neoclassical scrollwork, floral swags, and baskets of fruit in shades of blue, yellow, green, and terracotta, framed by a geometric scale border and finished with a warm ochre-glazed rim.
The cup features a footed base, an elegant angular handle with a small floral accent on the thumb rest, and interior border decoration matching the saucer design. It’s the perfect example of early 20th century Art Deco design.
The Great Depression of the 1930s had an astronomical affect on American history and decor. This design with its delicate lighter weight, yet cheery pattern was a nod to upper middle class homes of the time where finances were tight, but entertaining was still needed. This is the last piece that was once listed on a bridal registry of the time.
