This ornate piece is an antique French Rococo revival jardinière (table centerpiece planter), crafted by the famous French silversmith company Cailar Bayard.
Founded in Paris in 1874 by Noël Cailar and Pierre Bayard, the company was renowned for producing high-quality silver-plated tableware, serving pieces, and decorative centerpiece bronzes. While many of their pieces were originally bright silver-plated bronze or spelter, this particular jardinière has developed a beautiful, deep aged patina complete with visible verdigris (green oxidation) from time and outdoor exposure.
A romantic oval jardinière in dark patinated silver plate over bronze, with scrolling handles and paw feet. With the most beautiful aged patina. Perfect as a centerpiece filled with moss and candles, or a lovely floral arrangement for your holiday table. The original zinc insert is still intact. Circa 1900
